In advance of upcoming mining works at Avenue Station, crews must install sewer linings to the existing sewer infrastructure on Eglinton Avenue West between Braemar Avenue and Lascelles Boulevard. Work also includes one location at Avenue Road and Burnaby Boulevard as well as one location on Highbourne Road and one on Oriole Parkway.
Sewer lining is a process intended to increase the durability of the sewers. The liner is a flexible membrane that is placed inside the sewers. Lining is designed to be generally non-disruptive and eliminates the need for excavation of the entire sewer section.
To prepare to install the sewer lining, crews must first clean and measure the sewer sections using a robotic crawler with closed circuit cameras. Equipment required to complete the preparatory work includes a CCTV inspection unit, a safety tripod, a confined space rescue trailer, and lighting.
Lane closures will be implemented around the location of the sewer manholes. A minimum of 1.5m will be maintained for pedestrian walkways. Access to bus stops and businesses will be maintained at all times.
Hours of Work
- Work will occur during overnight periods from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. for approximately two (2) weeks.
- Work will begin as early as August 21, 2017.
More Information About Sewer Lining Installations (Next Phase)
- Once preparatory works are completed, the next stage of work of sewer re-lining will begin.
- Crews will insert a liner into the sewer from within the maintenance holes. Pipes will be visible between maintenance holes to bypass pump around the sewer lines during the liner installation. Additional details for the lining operations will be shared prior to work beginning.
- Due to the nature of the work, an unpleasant chemical odour may be noticeable in the vicinity of the maintenance holes and, in some circumstances, in the home. It is not harmful and this can be limited by covering floor drains while the sewers are being re-lined.
- There may be short durations during the work when local residents will be advised to refrain from water usage. To reduce impacts, water interruptions will occur overnight and notice will be provided 24 hours in advance to residents directly affected by the water interruption.
- Residents near the work site can expect to hear vacuum trucks, pumps, trucks and other construction equipment.
